In 1881 William was a lecturer in Political Economy at Oxford University. Son Nevil was a chemist who worked on kinetics, thermodynamics and was the author of The Electronic Theory of Valency (1927).

In 1911 William and Sarah are still in Rugby whislt Nevil is in Oxford.
