Matthew Sedgwick of Doncaster (born circa 1823)

Matthew Sedgwick [Matthew Sedgwick / Mary Unknown]
bpt 2 November 1823 Brotherton, Yorkshire
m Catherine A Burnitt 1847 (BMD)
d 1881

In 1851 Catherine and Mary Jane are alone in Knottingley - Matthew is away working as a waterman but hasn't been found yet. In 1861 and 1871 Matthew is working as a railway labourer. In the 1891 census Catherine is living with her son Thomas.

Son Thomas was a 'Loco coppersmith in 1881' and a copper smith in 1891 and 1901. At some time Thomas worked for the Royal Navy as his records appear at the PRO site under Seamen's Records.

It appears that daughter Jemima visited Australia as her eldest child (in 1891 census) was born there.
