In the 1841 census Mary is living in North Shields with two Sedgwick children and three Shepherd children. Both these children were baptised as the children of Mary Sedgwick - Mary was described as a single woman of Dortwick Street when Johnson was baptised. Johnson is called Brown in 1851 and there is a grandson called William Brown in the family too.

When the elder Mary Sedgwick was baptised in Tynemouth in 1831, Thomas was described as a Mariner of Dortwick Street.
